Stamatopoulos, C., & Caddy, J. F. (1989). Estimation of von Bertalanffy growth parameters: A versatile linear regression approach (Vol. 45).
Zusammenfassung: A new linear regression method is presented for fitting the von Bertalanffy growth function to data on size at age, which is also applicable to tag and recapture data. From tests on simulated data the method shows lower error and bias and more flexibility of action than other commonly used methods.

Klausewitz, W. (1989).

Hoenig, J. M., Prager, M. H., & Payton, N. B. (1989). Computer programs for investigating the effects of environmental events on a time series of recruitment. Department of Fisheries and Oceans, St. John's, Nfld. (Canada). Science Branch.
Zusammenfassung: Prager and Hoenig (in press) used a randomization procedure to test the significance of discrete environmental events, such as el Nino-Southern Oscillation events, on a time series of recruitment. Their procedure implicitly accounted for autocorrelation and other problems frequently encountered when trying to use a parametric testing procedure. In a follow up paper, Prager and Hoenig (in prep.) investigated the power of several randomization tests and compared them to parametric alternatives. This report presents the two Fortran computer programs used in these studies.

Landrum, J. L. (1989). Simplification methods for the World Vector Shoreline. Naval Ocean Research and Development Activity, NSTL Station, MS (USA).
Zusammenfassung: The fractal nature of the coastline makes it desirable to sample the World Vector Shoreline (WVS) data base in a manner related to the map scale at which it will be displayed. A survey of US Navy users has determined that several resolutions of the WVS are required. This report shows the relationship among vector data-base resolution, display device resolution, and map scale, then presents three simplification algorithms. These algorithms provide means of reducing the data-base resolution to that which is appropriate for a particular map scale and display device resolution. The discussion is supplemented with a series of maps illustrating the output of the simplification algorithms at several map scales.

Krivan, V., & Seda, J. (1989). Application of a guaranteed regression model to trophic interaction in an aquatic system (Vol. 49).
Zusammenfassung: The method of guaranteed estimation is used to estimate the unknown parameters of two nonlinear regression models. The first describes the relations between the body size structure of zooplankton and the biomass of planktivorous fish. The second estimates time-lag between the dynamics of cladoceran egg production and dynamics of phytoplankton.

Akamine, T. (1989). An interval estimation for extraction using Bayesian statistics.
Zusammenfassung: The statistical model for extraction is a binomial distribution. The conventional method for employing this binomial model is based on approximation to a normal distribution. The Bayesian statistical method, which assumes that the prior distribution of parameters is uniform, is preferable to the conventional method, and two theorems demonstrate that this model corresponds well with the conventional method. Furthermore, this model is simpler to understand and easier to calculate by micro-computer than the conventional method.

Akamine, T. (1989). An interval estimation for the Petersen method using Bayesian statistics.
Zusammenfassung: The statistical model for the Petersen method is a hypergeometric distribution. Approximation to a binomial distribution has been used, and the usual method for this binomial model is based on approximation to a normal distribution. The Bayesian statistical model for a binomial distribution, which assumes that the prior distribution of parameters is uniform, corresponds well with the conventional method. However, the Bayesian statistical method for a hypergeometric distribution which assumes the uniform prior distribution is not feasible. The prior distribution according to the inverse squared parameter is natural for this model. Beta function and zeta function are important to understand these methods. This model is simpler to understand and easier to calculate by micro-computer than the conventional method.
